Ski NZ - Canterbury

The New Zealand South Island contains the wonderful ski region of Canterbury as well as other ski areas, including Christchurch, Hanmer Springs, and Darfield. The perfect destination for a New Zealand ski holiday, the Canterbury ski area encompasses a wide range of slopes and runs, perfect for any skill level.

First, decide on where you’ll set up base with some cosy and comfortable accommodation. New Zealand ski accommodation is excellent in Canterbury, with accommodation ranging in price and facilities. Try a Canterbury hotel, or really let loose and check in to one of the world-class resorts: quite the way to enjoy your Canterbury ski vacation in pure luxury! Once you’re settled, grab a New Zealand map to help you navigate your way around to all the different ski runs.

Mt Hutt and the Porter Heights ski area are considered to have the best runs in Canterbury, and are always popular choices. The Craigieburn Valley ski area is home to a staggering six areas, while the Temple Basin ski area is on the smaller side. The majority of slopes offer ski hire if you haven’t brought your own equipment. If skiing isn’t your thing, there’s always snowboarding, or even the adrenaline-inducing heli ski.

It’s always a good idea to keep an eye on the New Zealand weather – while it’s usually fairly pleasant (although chilly!), a planned day on the slopes can be ruined by an unexpected storm. New Zealand is known for its fantastic skiing, and Canterbury is testament to this.
